How to Apply for Brazil Tourist Visa

A visitor who wants to travel to Brazil as a tourist will require a tourist visa to enter the country. Brazil tourist visa is a short duration visa. It permits a visitor to stay in Brazil for up to 90 days per year. It is meant for those visitors who wish to visit Brazil for the purpose of tourism, sightseeing or to visit friends and relatives only.

This visa is activated on the date of a visitor’s first entry in Brazil.

Eligibility Criteria for Brazil Tourist Visa

To be eligible for Brazil tourist visa you will have to fulfil the following conditions:

• You must have a valid passport
• Your passport must have a validity of at least 6 months
• You must have a copy of your completed visa application form
• You must provide proof of your confirmed hotel reservation, flight bookings and travel itinerary for the entire duration of your stay in Brazil
• You must provide a copy of your round-trip or tour ticket
• You must provide proof of your financial ability so as to support yourself financially during your stay in Brazil and for your return transportation. Brazil requires visitors to have at least USD 100 (INR 6,357.29) per day for staying in Brazil
• You must provide a formal statement of your financial situation from your bank for the previous 6 months
• You will require an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever if you have travelled to any of the Yellow Fever Countries within the last 90 days preceding your travel
• You intend to leave Brazil at the end of your authorized stay

Steps to follow to apply for Brazil Tourist Visa

Before you apply for Brazil tourist visa, go through the guidelines for the visa application  and check the processing time needed for the visa to be issued. Once you are aware of all the details regarding the application, you can go ahead with the following procedure:

Step 1: Fill up the visa application form online

Fill out the online visa application form and click the submit button to receive the protocol number. Take a print out of the protocol and sign it.

Step 2: Gather the required documents for the visa application

Make a check list of the documents that you need to submit along with your visa application. Gather all the documents and keep them ready for submission.

Step 3: Provide your photograph for the visa application

Paste your recent colour photograph in the corresponding field of the protocol. Make sure that your photograph matches or corresponds to all the specifications required for visa photographs. In any case, your photograph must not be more than 3 months old.

Step 4: Check the visa application fee

Check the fees required for your visa application. Keep the fee ready for submission along with your visa application form. Remember to check the mode of payment accepted for the visa application by the Brazil Consulate where you intend to submit your visa application.

Step 5: Submit your visa application

Set up an appointment for submitting your visa application. Pay the applicable fee for your visa application at the time of submitting your application form. You can submit your completed and signed application form in person or through a representative or travel agent at the Brazil Consulate nearest to you.

Your application form must be accompanied with all the required documentation and the proof of payment of the visa fee.

Remember that the completed and signed protocol must be submitted to the Brazil Consulate within 30 days after filling it online, else you will have to fill up the online application form again.

In case you want your visa to be delivered to you by mail, be sure to attach a self-addressed and stamped empty envelope along with your visa application form, for return of your documents. Make sure the Consulate of Brazil offers the visa service by mail.

Step 6: Check visa application status

Check the status of your visa application by clicking at visa status. Your visa application will be listed as one of the following:

• Received – Your visa application has been received
• Processing – Your application is currently being processed by the Consular Authority
• Authorized – Your visa has been authorized and is ready to be printed
• Ready for collection – Your visa has been issued and the passport is ready to be collected at the Visa Section of the Brazil Embassy on any working day

Step 7: Collect your visa

After your visa is issued, collect it on time from the Brazil Embassy.

Required Fees for Brazil Tourist Visa

Brazil tourist visa fee varies according to the nationality of the visitor.

Fees for Brazil Tourist Visa for Indian citizens and visitors of other nationalities* – USD 20 (INR 1,271.05)

• Your application fee will not be refunded if your application for a tourist visa is refused or rejected for any reason.

Renewal of Brazil Tourist Visa

In case you want to stay longer in Brazil than the duration granted in your visa, you will have to apply for an extension. Remember that all visa holders, regardless of nationality or visa validity date, may only stay in Brazil for up to 90 days per year, unless otherwise noted on the visa.

An extension of the original 90 days may be granted by the Federal Police Department in Brazil, yet your total stay cannot exceed 180 days a year, unless otherwise noted.

Also note that the extension of the Brazil tourist visa is granted only once.
