People can apply for a tourist visa which is also called New Zealand Visitor Visa, for sightseeing or tourism. It's a multiple entry visa which allows you to stay up to 9 months per 18 months period.  This visa allows a person to visit family and friends, undergo medical treatment, and take part in sports and cultural events. A valid passport, duly filled application, financial stability, bookings of hotels and flights are some of the major criteria for granting a visa.

For a student visa  you need to submit the ‘offer of place’ letter issued by the educational institution approved by New Zealand Qualifications Authority(NZQA), a valid passport, duly  filled application with visa fees, proof of required finance for your stay, fees, and daily requirements, meet the character and health requirements. Satisfying the criteria set by the government of New Zealand makes you eligible for a Permanent Resident status.
