Netherlands is a small, densely populated country, lying mainly in Western Europe. The Netherlands’ name literally means “Low Country”, inspired by its low and flat geography, with only about 50% of its land exceeding one metre above sea level.
The Netherlands has a tradition of learning foreign languages, formalized in Dutch education laws. Some 87% of the total population indicate they are able to converse in English, 70% in German, and 29% in French. English is mandatory in schools.
